WIC Services

The federal Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program sets children and families on a path to lifetime health and wellness.

WIC provides healthy food, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to other helpful services to pregnant individuals, new moms, infants, and kids under 5.

WIC Eligibility

Services are free for eligible families. Applicants must be one of the following:

  • Pregnant woman

  • Infant or child up to 5 years old

  • A breastfeeding mother of an infant up to 12 months old

  • A non-breastfeeding mother of an infant up to 6 months old

  • Father, grandparent, foster parent or caregiver applying for their children

You will need to provide proof of household income, residency and identity. Click here for income eligibility. WIC staff will go over the specific documentation you’ll need when you apply. 

Families can automatically qualify if they received Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, Essential Plan (depending on the level of the plan), or enrollment in Head Start or Early Head Start.

You need to be a resident of New York State. WIC doesn’t require citizenship.

To apply for WIC, make an appointment with us. Appointments can be over the phone, in person or online. WIC staff will help you understand the program and if you are eligible, you can have benefits right away! All information you share is confidential.

If you are eligible for WIC, you will receive:

  • An eWIC benefit card to purchase healthy foods suited to your needs.

  • A health and nutrition assessment for each qualifying member of your family.

  • Nutrition counseling focused on your needs and concerns.

  • Breastfeeding information and support for those interested.

  • Referrals to other programs and services.

  • Flexibility to schedule in-person or remote appointments.

Your First WIC Appointment

  • At your first appointment, staff will go through general questions like marital status, education level, household size, etc. They will enter the income, identity, and residency information.

  • We will also go over how to use your eWIC card and information about the app.

  • You will meet with a nutritionist who will go through a series of health and nutrition questions. They’ll go over the WIC foods and build your food package.

We want to make it convenient for you to complete your WIC appointment. All appointments, including your initial certification, can be completed over the phone or in person.
